Story interaction versus just listening

When it comes to helping your kid learn to love books later in life, we all know that reading to them at an early age and exposing them to all kinds of different stories is extremely important.

The same is true for fostering creativity and encouranging them to be a storytellers themselves.

Intentional social-emotional skill building

StoryGuider combines elements from early reader books for kids and tabletop RPGs, draws on inspiration from Choose-Your-Own Adventure games, and stems from work with pre-K social emotional learning curricula to create an experience for your kid that will help them:

  • love reading
  • think critically about stories
  • develop social and emotional skills
  • enjoy screen-free fun
Great for little kids and early readers

Easy for families and teachers

In addition to all the benefits that this provides for kids, it provides something very beneficial to the storyguide (you, their reader) as well… it is easy to jump into and is an engaging bonding opportunity for both you and your kid.

There’s no prep work or planning involved, unless you want to add some of the extra, very optional, enrichment activities that come with each adventure.  All you need to do is open the book, and it walks you through running a full story game with your kid(s).

Art team goals

The original StoryGuider series began releasing in 2021 as a la carte downloadable games with art from the writer, Steph from TTRPGkids.  While this art served the needs of the material at that time, they have wanted to update it ever since.

They are bringing on a team of artists including known community members, like Leo Assis, who illustrated “Making a Tabletop RPG for YOUR Particular Kid”, and upcoming teen artists, Amelia and Julia, who are looking to break into the world of TTRPG illustration and start their careers.  Each artist will be in charge of illustrating at least one trilogy for a different character so each set of stories will have it’s own special feel.

New book compatible format

When StoryGuider was initially released, it was for a pre-K classroom and had decision trees that required interpretation by the facilitator and printing of separate coloring sheets for kids.

Based on feedback and lessons learned both from those using the game these past few years and from reviewing over 100 kid-friendly TTRPG projects via the TTRPGkids website mission, StoryGuider is being reformated for easy use and accessibility!

While the original version will still be digitally available, the new version will follow a guided book format with the decision tree integrated into the story (i.e. “choice A, go to page 7” and “choice B, go to page 12”) and will have art pages alongside the reading material for players to color on or interact with as the story unfolds.

You choose the adventures:
comes in sets of 3, 12, or 36

Printed a la carte and compilation books

This big update will also come with options to choose stories in sets of 3 (trilogies), 12 (big books), or all 36 (big bundle).   Backing a book tier of the project will, at the price of the digital version of the book, get you both the digital version and a print-on-demand key that lets you choose if you want to print at-cost or not.  This saves you cost and reduces time to ship by giving you direct control of when you want to apply your code!

As a parent and educator myself, I know how budgets and purchase decisions work, so I wanted to make sure you would have the flexibility to work with your particular needs and have a sliding scale for picking the content you want to try with your kid(s).
